The Parents’ Association Spreads Holiday Cheer

Jill Singleton | Volume: 7 Issue: 6 | Jan. 10, 2018
My family made the decision long ago that Christmas gifts are for children, and it’s a policy I have continued to embrace. That being said, I look forward to and LOVE receiving my PA gift each year, and I am always careful to spend it on something I would not otherwise purchase for myself. This year I was so happy to welcome a Dyson Ball Animal handheld vacuum cleaner into my home! With two dogs, two birds (and a husband!), this wonderful product allows me to keep my home sparkling clean and looking beautiful. Thank you for this wonderful gift.

I asked around to see how others used their generous gifts card, and it was so much fun I thought I would share a few of the responses. “I am truly grateful for this generous gift,” said Iris Nunez, our Enrichment Coordinator and Business Assistant. “I purchased an Ipad!”

Upper School Division Head, Amanda Dillon and Dean of Students, Noah Guzman said they will be using their gifts to take a fun vacation with their daughter Pippa this summer. “With buying a new house, this generous gift will allow us that extra bit of fun this year!”

“The gift really allowed me to create some special moments with my husband, children and extended family,” said Middle School Science Teacher Kim Giammarino. “We went skiing and stayed over in a hotel - it was like a mini-get away.”

Middle School Teacher Libby Vino said she took her children to an indoor water park to help pass the days between the end of school and Christmas. Second Grade Teacher Ronnie Loving used hers while on a Christmas trip to Washington DC with her family.  “Being together as a family and having some extra money for items above and beyond what we would spend was such a treat!” Fourth Grade Teacher Colleen Ngyuen, who used part of her money to spruce up her guest bedroom, is also grateful to be able to put some of the money toward a quiet family weekend in Cape May this winter. Business Manager Debbie Jacobus plans to use her money when she travels to Iceland this summer by treating her family to a round of midnight golf.

Nicole Ciccariello, my assistant, was able to do something she’s wanted to do for a long time – she adopted a beautiful Chihuahua puppy named Pixie! (That’s her picture, above.)

Speaking of babies, Tati Cariani and Nicole Berhaupt are super excited to use their gifts to purchase needed items for their human babies on the way!

Several staff members said they used their money for delicious edible treats for themselves and family over the holiday break. Middle School Teacher Rachel Hartman used her to buy food for holiday entertaining, Dance Teacher Ms. E treated herself and her husband to a special vegan tapas restaurant for a New Year’s Eve dinner in New York, Technology Director Jason Maurer used his for dining out, and one Elementary Teacher used hers to treat a dear friend to lunch and to purchase gifts for her family members.

Finally, some staff used their gift to recharge! Kindergarten Teacher Kathy Ferman paid for a month of unlimited classes at Honor Yoga, and Director of Advancement Erin Moran bought tickets to Springsteen on Broadway!

Each year this generous gift brings tremendous joy to all of the faculty and staff at All Saints. On behalf of all of us, I offer sincere and abundant thanks to our parents for making us all smile in so many different ways, for so many different reasons, and in so many different places around the globe!
