Facilities Expansion Update
We begin this school year stronger and more vital than ever. There are exciting additions to our faculty, our programs and our technology, thanks to the incredible generosity of parents, faculty and staff, and friends of All Saints. And we are especially grateful to the church, which owns our school property, for its strong support throughout our 30-year history. We remain committed to our strategic vision and our focus on being the school of choice in the Hoboken area for children through eighth grade.
In our June communication about our future facilities plan, we advised you that the parish leadership was engaging in a process of careful study to reconsider its long-term property strategy. Their reassessment continues and we believe it is wise to extend our timeline and revise our completion date for our facilities expansion. While we must change our timeline, we now have an opportunity to reflect on how best to ensure the continued success of our school.
Over the last several years, we have experienced dramatic growth, including the completion of several building projects. We are now a much larger and more complex organization. With this success, it has become evident that our planning process needs to address a broader range of issues than ever before.
As we look at an extended horizon for completing the next phase of our growth and as we consider the needs of our larger, more complex school, we have determined that it is prudent to put the currently proposed facilities expansion on hold. Two significant considerations drove this decision:
- We want to review our options for future growth and development in light of the results of the parish long-term property reassessment, in order to determine the very best way to strengthen our school and our programs.
- We are very sensitive to finalizing a schedule which will allow us to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience to your children and our faculty and staff – such as temporary classrooms.
What does this mean for you and your children?
We have a commitment to you to educate your children through the eighth grade. We will do so. Nothing has changed in that regard. While we put the planned expansion on hold temporarily, our current students remain our priority. We have explored contingency plans and have determined that the best strategy at this time is to manage our enrollment from the bottom up. That is, we will add a second fourth grade class next year, as planned. We will then have only one section of nursery, to balance our current space requirements and limitations. This enrollment strategy will continue until an optimal facilities plan is developed.
Of course we are eager to move forward. But we believe that this short-term pause affords us an unexpected opportunity that will yield the best long-term outcome for our school.
We look forward to communicating with you as we progress, and to working closely with each of you as we move ahead. We are very grateful for your continued patience and for the trust you have placed in us. Your support has been responsible for our dramatic success story. As always, please let us know if you have any questions.
