Guest Blog: Teeing Up for a Cause, by Peter Cossio

Peter Cossio
Spring has sprung and it’s time to give back. Thanks to our Head of School, Jill Singleton, for inviting me to be this week’s guest blogger. I would like to take this opportunity to describe how the All Saints golf outing came to be a multi-school Hoboken event. The Swing Fore the Schools golf outing is the only fundraiser that I am aware of that is truly a collaboration with a number of Hoboken schools participating, including Stevens Cooperative, The Mustard Seed School, Elysian Charter School, Hola Dual Language Charter School and Hoboken Charter School. Five years ago a few of the regular attendees of the several school golf outings in town decided that they could maximize attendance and sponsor participation by combining the outings into one large multi-school golf fundraiser extravaganza! This multi-school event has since become a tremendous success. This year we are expecting over 250 golfers and our fundraising efforts are on target to surpass previous years. The golf outing is a unique fundraiser for All Saints as all of the proceeds from the event go directly to the school’s scholarship program.
This mission of giving back to the community is an important part of the philosophy of our school. All Saints understands the financial commitment that families undertake in deciding to send their children to an independent school. They also know that some families may need help covering the costs. The financial aid program is available to families who qualify on the basis of need and helps maintain a diverse socio-economic student population.

I would like to invite everyone to come out and support our school on Monday, May 19th, at Crystal Springs Resort, and if you are not a golfer, please consider spending the day at the beautiful resort spa and pool and joining us for dinner. Although getting out on the course is a great way to spend the day, the majority of the fundraising dollars are provided by our generous sponsors, so I encourage everyone to take one of the many sponsorships available or ask a local business or your employer to consider a sponsorship package. There are packages available at different price points, allowing for great marketing opportunities for businesses of all sizes. Many businesses have a budget allocated for these types of fundraising events and may be looking to complete their yearly charitable contributions or bolster their marketing efforts, so I encourage everyone who has an HR department to ask if they would consider a sponsorship. For larger companies, these sponsorship packages provide a great branding opportunity and for local businesses it is a very good way to gain exposure by reaching a large segment of residents and families in town, as the event is advertised through six different schools and has the capacity to reach a large segment of potential clients and customers. If you are interested in volunteering please contact me, Minor Huffman or Kathy Vergel. Thanks and I hope to see you in support of our school on May 19th.
