Dine InDeed Hoboken

The All Saints Day School and The Jubilee Center are joining forces with the Association for Science in Autism Treatment to launch Dine InDeed Hoboken, a community-wide restaurant event committed to helping children realize their fullest potential.

In a nutshell, a percentage of your food bill will be donated to these three charities when you dine at a participating restaurant. The more these restaurants are patronized the larger the donation….so you can enjoy a nice meal here in Hoboken and help make a difference in the lives of children.

Reverend Michelle White, David Celiberti and I have sent out initial letters to 40+ Hoboken area restaurants.

Stacks Pancake House at 506 Washington Street is our 1st participating restaurant and starting on July 7th. They will donate 10% of the check totals every Wednesday from 2 pm to 10 pm each week until September 1st.

Helping children access opportunities to thrive and realize their fullest potential is an incredible act of kindness. Empty Bowls Cereal Cafe And Youth Rocks Out for Hunger Concert

Join the All Saints Community and help the hungry! The church is turned into a cereal cafe where people can share a meal while making a difference in the lives of those who are hungry. Bring the kids for a fun breakfast and show, and teach them an important lesson about giving. All proceeds benefit the work of the hunger relief organizations in Hoboken: the Hoboken Homeless Shelter, St. Matthew’s Lunchtime Ministry Program, and In Jesus’ Name Emergency Food Pantry.

During the event, All Saints students and parents will also be collecting toiletries for the homeless shelter outside the Shoprite, Kings and A&P in town, so please consider donating to this cause as well.

Empty Bowls is an international campaign that raises thousands of dollars each year for organizations coping with the devastating reality of hunger and homelessness. The event was started in 1990 by a high school art teacher in Michigan who was looking for a way to combine service and the arts. The concept of Empty Bowls is simple: a simple meal is sold at a nominal cost, and each person who attends is invited to bring home a student-made bowl as a reminder that “someone’s bowl is always empty” and that together we can make a difference.

Through the Empty Bowls program, students from All Saints and the broader community have raised more than $100,000 for hunger relief in Hoboken over the course of the last 10 years. In addition, tens of thousands of dollars worth of food has been collected in the annual food drive.

On Sunday, January 9th, the Nursery and Pre-K parents got the opportunity to visit the new classrooms at The St. Nicholas Center (AKA “The Queen”). A toast was made to all the hard work and patience, which has resulted in a beautiful new home for these grades.

All Saints Episcopal Day School celebrated the opening of its new campus at 527 Clinton Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, January 11. Expanding from the school’s main campus at 707 Washington Street, the new location will house the school’s Nursery and Pre-K programs this year, and will add kindergarten classes in September, 2010. The expansion allows for the final phase of the school’s new middle school program serving students in Grades 5-8. The school’s enrollment has nearly doubled in the past five years. Last year, the school successfully launched its middle school program, and its first eighth grade class is scheduled to graduate in 2012.

“We are so fortunate that our sponsoring parish has been able to renovate one of its beautiful historic buildings to accommodate our growing school,” said Jill Singleton, Head of School, “especially since there is such limited space available for schools and community use in this area.”

“The new facility is a great complement to our existing school, and we look forward to seeing our children grow and learn in our expanded campus,” said Jennifer O’Callaghan, co-president of the school’s Parents’ Association.

All Saints Episcopal Parish, which owns both properties, considered several different options before deciding to renovate the interior of the historic Clinton Street property to accommodate the school’s near-term growth needs. The building includes four classrooms as well as a large open multi-purpose space which will be utilized as an indoor play area, a space for dance and physical education classes, gatherings and performances. The Queen-Ann style building is admired by many for its architectural details and historic beauty. The leadership of the parish and school consider this expansion the first phase of the school’s growth plan and a number of different options are being considered for future expansion, in order to revitalize the property for even greater community use.

“The St. Nicholas Center continues the original mission of Martha B. Stevens,” Rev. Curtiss said. “Originally founded as a school, the center returns the mission of the Stevens family to reach out and serve children. We look forward to this expansion as we continue to grow our parish day school.”

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has opened a toll-free telephone line for the general public to call in regard to H1N1 Influenza and Vaccine.

The telephone line will be operational Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The number is 1-866-321-9571.
